About us
Our story
ArtWorks East (AWE) is an association of visual artists and crafters who live in Guysborough County. Our non-profit corporation began in 2019 and is listed with the Nova Scotia Registry of Joint Stocks.
We began with simple Christmas markets, selling to friends and neighbours. In 2021, we opened a summertime gallery on the Guysborough waterfront and received visitors from all over North American and Europe. With generous federal and provincial grants, we began sharing our skills through workshops for children and adults, including the local nursing homes and Guysborough Options for Adaptive Living. Our e-commerce site opened in 2024. Upcoming plans for 2025 include visual arts instruction in the local schools and some professional development for our painters.
ArtWorks East now includes almost 60 members from ages 11 to 80. We welcome local artisans of all ages and levels of experience as well as those who want to support the visual arts in our area.
Our Vision
Our vision is a community where the skills and related products of the visual arts and crafts are appreciated, shared, taught, promoted, and purchased by residents and visitors, both young and old.
